Say Hello and You will Win

Although Halloween had not been familiar to Japanese people, lately haunted pumpkins appear to have steadily been invading this country.
Their invasion might have succeeded at a certain level since almost all the streets are decorated orange here in Tokyo.
Nevertheless even in this situation most of the people here don't know what Halloween is.
"What's Halloween? Something like a greeting to Christ?", a friend of mine asked me when we were walking on the main street of Marunouchi. "Because it sounds like 'hello'ing".
"A good guess", I replied. "But not to 'Christ'. I heard it's a greeting to western monsters. Look at them. They are standing near the entrance of each shop. Just say 'hello' to them. I'm sure you will win. You can beat them by such an easy attack. Now you are the hero getting rid of evil things. So it's 'Hello-win'. OK?"
"Oh, it really makes sense", he looked deeply impressed.
I bet not a few of the Japanese will believe my explanation.
Trick or treat.
